Archiving Shipments
What
Product images from each painting shipment should be regularly archived on NAS-Painting Images. These archives are used for FTP updates, among other things. You will:
- Download a ZIP of all the painting images for each shipment
- Extract images from the ZIP archive
- Rename extracted images
- Separate bad images
- Copy good images to NAS-Painting Images
When
Weekly. I do it on Thursdays.
Requirements
- Access to Communicator
- Access to NAS-Painting Images
- Software that can open and extract ZIP files
- I recommend 7ZIP. It’s fast, handles every major archive format including ZIP, RAR, 7Z, ISO, and more, plus it’s completely free forever with no ads.
Downloading Images
Login to Communicator and find the section of the homepage labeled ‘Open Shipments’.
Locate the most recent shipment from each of the three painting vendors (1START, AS Oil, and Ducanh). Open it in a new tab.
Scroll down to the section below ‘Payment Information’ and click the button labeled ‘Download Images Zip File’.
Save the file to a folder on your computer, then open that folder in Explorer. Make sure the file is done downloading before trying to extract it, as these can take a few seconds to transfer.
Once it’s downloaded, extract the contents to a subfolder.
At this point you can delete the ZIP to save space, since all the images are out.
Open the folder that now has your JPGs in it. Rename all of them to the format VG485_AS-12-12-17.jpg
, replacing the part number and shipment as appropriate.
Check out the guide on how to rename images in bulk for more information on how to do this more efficiently.
Separating Bad Images
Return to the shipment page in Communicator. You’ll have to determine whether or not any of the painting images have been marked as bad.
Press Ctrl + F and search for ‘bad ‘ - that’s ‘bad’ with a space after it. This will highlight any rows that say ‘Bad Image’ while not matching any ‘Mark Bad’ links.
For each of the bad images that you find on the shipment, find its image file in your folder. Move it to a subfolder called “Bad Images” or something similar.
In a new Explorer window, open: NAS-Common\Art Department\PROD - Photos
. Create a new folder there, named in the format of Need Photos_AS-12-12-17
, replacing the shipment number as appropriate. Copy all of the bad images you set aside into that folder.
Archiving on NAS
In another Explorer window, open: NAS-Paintings\All OSA Painting arch\
.
Open the folders that correspond to the shipment’s year and vendor.
Inside will be a list of folders organized by artist. Copy each of the renamed good images to the appropriate artist folder.
